EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Jigme Sherubling Higher Secondary School has secured very good results in all I.S.C./B.C.S.E. examinations down the years. Yet, the busy academic schedule has not forbidden the Jigsher Youth from proving their excellence in all other co-curricular activities. The various clubs functioning in the school are pledged to preserve and nourish the innate talents of the Jigsher youth.
Agricultural club
The green fields of the school Oxfam teaches the value of farming in life. The school agriculture farm explores the land fertility through cultivation of various new crops, thereby teaching the community, lessons of bringing about greater economic prosperity. It also looks after Shitaeke mushroom cultivation and poultry farm. The Club has also started a Dairy farm in its compound. The club also observes World Food Day on 16th October every year with campaigns for creating awareness about food self-sufficiency and health nourishment.
IT
I.T. has become the life breath of modern life. Our school is the pilot school in imparting I.T. education to the local community. Conducting Workshops during winter and summer break is a significant step taken by the school towards this cause.
Sports and Games club
The school sports and Games club is organizing a number of games and sports competitions every year to discover the innate physical talents of our youth. Apart from a number of games like football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, chess, khuru, archery, the club also conducted a regional athletic meet in 2002, where participants from various Dzongkhas exhibited their sporting prowess.
The school environment club
The school environment club observes the "Social forestry Day" on June 2nd. In 2002, the club launched a programme of developing a Mini -forest in the school campus. It planted nearly 500 saplings to realize this goal. A silent walk campaign was conducted to create awareness among the local community about the importance of health and cleanliness and other environmental issues.
Reading Programme
Books are the blazing torches, leading humanity from darkness to light. Sensing the importance of reading books apart from the prescribed ones in the syllabus, a reading program has been implemented in our school. Every Sunday, the students read library books for one hour in their classrooms. Very often Book fairs are also conducted to make everyone aware of the importance of reading.
Driglam Namzha
The school is aware of its role as a device for shaping and moulding the character of individuals in society. Mere bookish knowledge and skills take no one anywhere. Through the promotion of Driglam Namzha, the youth is made to take pride in being Bhutanese and they are taught the unique colors and firmness of Bhutanese culture. This is to be noted specially, when we are reminded of the cultural invasion that threatens our small good country.
Project works
Besides the exemplary performance in games and sports, martial arts, Music, cultural and literary activities, the youthful energy of Jigsher finds expression in form of project works done by class x and xii. The beautiful works, rendered to the Jigsher Campus by the class x and xii include Chorten, lamp posts, lawn, altar for Jamyang, the statues of Deities, weather station, clock tower, garage, school logo, artificial pond, mini park etc. They all reflect the love of manual work and the spirit of dignity of labour acquired by the Jigsher students, from this seat of wisdom.
As has been noted early, down the 28 years the school has influenced the soul of Khaling immensely. The learning activities here are boosted because of this seat of wisdom. People around the school are enticed towards learning, since the school provides higher education at their doorstep, with full-fledged library and lab facilities.
Jigme Sherubling is a temple of peace and learning. The innocent pigeons flying around Jigsher spread the virtuous message of good learning. The eulogy of Jigsher is never an exaggeration even when we say that the endeavour of both teachers and students are reflected expressly in the campus.
The school reigns in this green valley of Khaling, listening to the smooth symphony of love and affection, being a friend and guide to everyone. It teaches its children the art of living a fruitful and prosperous life.
The school has constructed a grand monument to commemorate the Coronation of the Vth King…..
