CLASS WORK (CW) is a planned learning activity related to the lesson taught and is carried out by the students in the classroom under the supervision and guidance of the teacher. Some examples of CW may be group discussions, reading, writing, drawing, problem solving, student participation and practice (conduct, interest/attitude towards learning/activities) etc. Assessment is based on: presentation, participation, improvement, language and deadline.
HOME WORK (HW) is a learning task that teachers assign to students, which should be carried out after the school hours. It is an extension of the class work that students are supposed to complete on their own with minimum teacher’s guidance and support, often in a short span of time for example overnight, one day etc. Assessment is based on completion, presentation, consistency, originality and deadline.
SUBJECT TEST (ST) is conducted at least once in month to evaluate the student progress in various subjects which is left to the discretion of the subject teachers concerned as per their convenience whereby they fulfil the standards set by the school. Subject Tests are aimed at not only reinforcing the learners to learn continuously (thereby checking on the continuity of learning) but also to check and ensure the learners understanding of the contents/topics taught/learnt in the class (thereby checking on the knowledge acquired by the learners in that particular period /unit or chapter).
PROJECT WORK (PW) is an extended learning activity undertaken by a student related to a topic in the syllabus involving the student in processes such as information gathering, interpreting and presenting the information in a logical sequence and written form under the continual guidance and support of the teacher. Here, the process gains much more attention and recognition than the product, which of course is taken into account. Assessment is based on content, process, and presentation.
PRACTICAL EXERCISE (PE) is carried out for Physics, Chemistry and Biology as prescribed in the Syllabus instead of Project Work for Grades IX and X during the Practical Periods. In case of grades XI and XII, the students undertake both. Assessment is based on preparation, procedure, observation, inference, presentation and deadline.
All forms of assessment mentioned above are recorded and maintained as part of CA by the subject teachers. The records need to be signed by Monitors and Academic Head at the end of each month (for PW, at the end of scheduled time); they will also look at the work corrected before signing the records. The grades/marks obtained will be displayed at the end of each month (for PW, at the end of scheduled time) in each class by the Subject Teachers concerned who are also responsible for compiling records for onward submission to the Class Teachers at the end of each term.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND SUPW
All co-curricular activities and SUPW in the school is taken very seriously for all round development of the learners. As such there is very close monitoring of the learners’ involvement in all the school activities by the concerned teachers and student councillors and the respective in charges. For instance all work done – both normal SUPW and all voluntary work is recorded and marked by the organisers concerned. Any good behaviour noticed or any extraordinary contribution made is also recorded. At the same time any misconduct or irregularity of the learner is also recorded in the diary for future reference and correction and preventive measures.
|
All Normal SUPW: 20 marks will be awarded for every 1 hour based on the following criteria: Planning of work Willingness and attitude toward the work given Completion and efficiency Care of tools Report and maintenance of record of work done All Voluntary Work is marked as follows: 30 marks will be awarded for every 1 hour based on the following criteria: Planning Completion & Efficiency Care of tools *Award of marks will also depend on the nature of work being done The following grades will then be awarded: GRADE DESCRIPTION A More than 1500 points B 1301 –1500 points C 1101– 1300 points D 901—1100 points E Less than 900 points GRADE INTERPRETATION A- EXCELLENT B- GOOD C- SATISFACTORY D- FAIR E- FAILED. |
